President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, declared on Tuesday, at the beginning of talks in Astana with President Traian Basescu, that his country is ready for multi-level cooperation with Romania, the energy sector included, and invited Romanian companies to participate in the industrial development of his country.

Kazakhstan is ready to cooperate with Romania on several levels, beginning with energy and ending with trade, and also in the sphere of Kazakhstan’s industrial development, a process we also invite your companies to participate in,” said the Kazakh leader. He added that the subjects approached during bilateral discussions included economic and political cooperation, but regional issues as well.

“Such an intense dialogue at the level of President facilitates contacts among business people”, said Nazarbayev. He added that Romania is the main partner of Kazakhstan in the region of Central and Eastern Europe, reminding that commercial exchanges of the two countries last year stood at 800 million dollars, despite the crisis.

There are also 35 joint RomaniaKazakhstan joint ventures operating in business such as oil, gas, construction or transports. In his turn, President Basescu congratulated Kazakhstan on its holding the OSCE Presidency.

“We have the experience of holding this position since 2001 and I assure you that that was a year when Romania had the opportunity to strongly assert itself internationally, something I wish you to experience too following your being at the helm of OSCE in 2010,” said the head of the Romanian state. He mentioned that Tuesday’s meeting was an occasion to reinforce the subjects discussed in Bucharest in 2007.
